Of all the Canary Islands, Tenerife boasts the most adult-only luxury hotels. Ranging from the entire hotel being for adults looking to get away from it all in luxurious settings, to an exclusive area of the hotel dedicated to older guests, there’s a hotel to suit most adults.
The island of Tenerife is known as a year-round destination due to its mild climate during the winter months, and wonderfully hot temperatures throughout the summer. In fact, Tenerife is No.10 in TripAdvisor’s top 25 destinations in Europe for 2019.
With this in mind, we’ve set out below our top 7 adult-only luxury hotels in Tenerife.
1. Iberostar Grand El Mirador
An impressive luxury hotel, the Iberostar Grand El Mirador is located next to the Playa de Duque beach in the resort of Costa Adeje situation in the southern area of Tenerife.
The unique architecture of this 5-star hotel provides a romantic setting with the benefit of all rooms having sea views. There’s even an area for guests who decide to stay in a Star Prestige room that offers unique facilities including butler services.
You can stay at this hotel on either a bed and breakfast, or half board basis, so you can enjoy the à la carte restaurant (La Pergola) from where you have sea views and can savour the Mediterranean cuisine. Dishes include (but not limited to) fresh fish, seafood and paella. The El Mirador restaurant is buffet style and offers show-cooking sessions for guests. Dishes include local and international, and is open for both breakfast and dinner.
Treat yourself to the spa area at the Iberostar Grand El Mirador where you can experience a body treatment, facial, or just relax in the spa circuit. For the more active guest, there’s a fitness centre open from 09:00 to 20:00 where you can use the treadmill, elliptical training, bike, rowing machine and other training equipment.
2. Iberostar Grand Salome
The luxury Iberostar Grand Salome is located in the up-market resort of Costa Adeje in the south of Tenerife, and is the neighbouring hotel to the popular Iberostar Anthelia.
The Grand Salome is an all-suite complex, with each room comprising sea views. Choose from a sea view suite, sea view terrace suite with direct pool access, or a sea view superior suite. You can even take advantage of the hotel’s butler service.
There are two outdoor swimming pools to relax by, both of which overlook the sea. Select from the range of sunbeds, hammocks or Balinese beds, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and warm year-round sunshine. Of course, you may want to take a break from the pool, so why not head to the air conditioned gym and make use of the cardio fitness equipment or the sauna, steam room and whirlpool.
To fully relax, there’s SPA Sensation comprising thermal circuit, cold water pool, sensation showers, massage treatments, holistic health and cleansing programme.
When it comes to dining options, you can choose from à la carte menus, buffet restaurants and a pool bar. Dishes include local, international, Italian and Spanish. You can stay here on bed and breakfast, half board, or all-inclusive.
3. Iberostar Selection Sabila
The 5-star adults-only Iberostar Selection Sabila is bright, chic, and minimalist in décor, with the benefit of being located on the beachfront in Costa Adeje in the south of the island of Tenerife. The beach is just 150m from the hotel, and the resort centre 700m away.
There’s a variety of places to dine at this hotel including a buffet restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. For the à la carte menu, head to the Gourmet Market for a range of local and international dishes complete with show cooking. If you prefer something lighter, there’s a snack bar serving an à la carte lunch menu, a lobby bar, pool bar and coffee lounge. Guests can stay at the Iberostar Selection Sabila on bed and breakfast, half board, or all-inclusive.
Rooms are comfortable, and decorated in a tranquil and neutral colour palette with many having views to the sea.
You’ll find ample space around the 2 pools areas (one of the pools is heated during the winter season from November to the end of February). Choose from sunbeds, hammocks, and Balinese beds, and if you stay in a Star Prestige room you have access to the one of the pools that’s located on the roof terrace.
Feeling active? There’s an air-conditioned gym with sauna, steam room and whirlpool. You can also join in the aerobics, aqua aerobics and yoga sessions.
4. Las Madrigueras Golf Resort & Spa
Luxury and quality go hand-in-hand at the 5-star Las Madrigueras in Playa de las Americas, south Tenerife. One of the smaller luxury adult-only hotels on the island, this hotel has just 44 superior room and 13 suites making this a more intimate experience for guests.
Rooms have views of the Golf Las Americas course, the Atlantic, and the neighbouring island of La Gomera. Choose from a double superior, junior suite, duplex suite, hole in one suite, or one of the royal suites for the ultimate in luxury and comfort with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and 2 terraces.
Las Madrigueras Golf Resort & Spa has an award-winning restaurant serving classic cuisine to guests who can either stay at the hotel on bed and breakfast or half board. You can choose from their à la carte menu, light snacks and lunches or a candlelit dining experience. After dinner, simply retire to the Piano Bar and enjoy a cocktail and perhaps catching up with other guests.
There’s also a gym and spa area where guests can use the sauna, jacuzzi and Turkish bath. The outdoor pool is heated and has ample sunbeds and parasols for guests to enjoy.
As its name suggests, the Las Madrigueras is ideal for golfing enthusiasts due to its close proximity to Golf Las Americas. In fact, there is direct access to the course from the hotel.
5. Melia Hacienda del Conde
Located in the northwest of Tenerife in the resort of Buenavista del Norte, the colonial style, 5-star Melia Hacienda del Conde is the ideal getaway for dramatic and breathtaking views of both the mountains and sea.
There are 2 outdoor swimming pools with complimentary towels for guests, and both pools are heated (1 all year and 1 during the winter season). Balinese beds and parasols add to the luxury feel of the outdoor space.
With the Buenavista golf course on the doorstep (designed by Severiano Ballesteros), this hotel is a great choice for golfers. If golf isn’t your sport, then there’s always the air-conditioned gym, or cycle hire to keep you active.
Rooms are spacious and bright, and some benefit from golf course views or views of the sea. For an added luxurious touch, try ‘The Level’ junior suite with whirlpool tub located on your private terrace where you can enjoy views of the Atlantic.
The main buffet restaurant offers international cuisine and you can also dine in the outdoor Pergola where breakfast is also served. For a more intimate atmosphere try Salazar Restaurant for local dishes combined with an Asian influence. Not forgetting those guests relaxing by one of the pools, there’s the El Pandano Pool Bar, where you can find fresh and healthy bites to eat. If tapas are preferred, La Tasca Wine Bar won’t disappoint. You can book to stay at the Melia Hacienda del Conde on either bed and breakfast, or half board.
6. RedLevel at Gran Melia Palacio de Isora
The luxury Gran Melia Palacio de Isora is located alongside a black-sand beach in the resort of Guia de Isora. Book the RedLevel at the hotel and you will stay in the adults-only area and benefit from the private RedLevel Lounge and top class service including preferential restaurant reservations and complimentary services.
Rooms are spacious and many have hydromassage tubs on private terraces with views of the Atlantic. For the ultimate experience, try an ocean front garden villa where you will not only have your own private garden, but a heated pool and Bali bed – perfect for the romantic getaway.
The hotel’s attention to using the freshest of local produce is evident in the restaurants. There is La Terrace for RedLevel guests, offering both local and international dishes. Also available is an Italian restaurant, a Mediterranean menu, elaborate Asian dishes, and a buffet restaurant to name just a few. The RedLevel at Gran Melia Palacio de Isora accepts bookings on bed and breakfasts, half board, or full board.
If you’d like to take advantage of the Spa, you will be treated to products by Clarins. Treatments include massage, aromatherapy, sauna, thermal shock showers, hydromassage, essence showers, outdoor treatment booths and a Zen meditation area. There is also a health club available for yoga, spinning, pilates and general relaxation and meditation.
7. Royal Hideaway Corales Beach
Probably the most modern of the adults-only hotels in Tenerife, the Royal Hideaway Corales Beach is in the La Caleta / Costa Adeje area of the island. Offering a contemporary style to guests, its clean lines, and designer colours and textures create a calming atmosphere. Constructed in the shape of a boat, the interior represents the colourful marine corals of Tenerife.
There are 121 luxury rooms at the hotel with sea views, and some with the added luxury of a hot tub on the private terrace. Careful attention to detail ensures that all rooms are bright and airy, with open-concept bathrooms connecting to the main room.
With many dining options to choose from, you’ll be spoiled for choice. If you’re after Peruvian-Japanese, local Canarian cuisine, Italian, or gourmet dining with the Michelin-star Padron brothers menu, there’s something to suit all tastes.
